Instead of taking prescription drugs for arthritis pain and joint stiffness, a few changes in your diet has been shown to alleviate pain and reverse stiffness without any of the risky side effects of chemicals.

Some foods leave behind an acid ash, and it is this acid in your system that contributes to inflammatory symptoms. You can mask the acid in your body with drugs, or you can drastically lower your acid and return your body to a more healthy alkalinity.

These foods are acidic to your body or cause allergic reactions which contribute to inflammation:

  • Grains – gluten containing grains such as wheat
  • Beef, pork, chicken
  • Alcohol
  • Coffee, Tea, caffeine in chocolate
  • Processed vegetable oils
  • Sugar
  • Nightshade plants – tomato, eggplant, potato

The following foods are alkaline and reduce inflammation:

  • Gluten free grains – amaranth, brown rice, kamut, millet, quinoa
  • Fish and seafood (the higher in omega 3 fatty acids the better as they are anti-inflammatory)
  • Water, lemon water
  • Fruit juices, vegetable juices (try juicing your own for no additives and preservatives)
  • Extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil
  • Almost every fruit and vegetable

Overeating also causes inflammation, so have six or even eight smaller meals…or eat small amounts whenever you are hungry. Try cooking your vegetables just a little less, or have them raw for the ultimate enzyme and alkaline benefit.

Lowering acid and your pH reduces inflammation that cause and contribute to other diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Summertime is a great time to increase your fruit and vegetable intake. Research shows that joints and your whole body will feel better and be less prone to disease.
