Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify & Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your PlanetHarmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify & Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet

by Norma Lehmeier Hartie

Grand Prize Winner of the Writer’s Digest Magazine Self-Published Book Awards, Harmonious Environment competed against 2,404 other book entries in over nine categories. Yes, Harmonious Environment is that good!

I can’t begin to tell you how impressed I am with this book. Yeah, I think that I know a lot about clean, green, eco-friendly and natural… but I was amazed at what I learned by reading this book!

First, this isn’t a little ‘bite’ of information that you may or may not have read in a dated magazine at your doctor’s office. This book is FILLED with the latest information concerning:

  • The elimination of toxins and their replacement with eco-friendly substitutes
  • Cleaning, clearing and organization
  • Why you need to avoid toxic body products and suggestions for healthy ones
  • How to eat more healthfully with appealing recipes provided
  • How to be more harmonious within yourself and with Mother Earth
  • Applying Feng Shui and other techniques for powerful results
  • Discussions on the benefits of crystals, plants and flowers for environmental and emotional serenity
  • How to decorate with confidence
  • A list of recommended reading, product suppliers, teachers and organizations

As you can see from the bullet points, this book is well organized and covers not only your environment, but YOU in your environment: for total harmony, the changes need to begin with YOU.

Many of us know that eating, applying and living in the midst of chemicals and toxins is not a healthy or harmonious way to live. We have lost touch with the simplicity of nature and all it has to offer our mind, emotions and well-being. Where do we begin? Why, despite our best intentions to ‘go green’ does it all seem so overwhelming?

I like that this book takes it step by step. Read a chapter and then apply what you are comfortable with. Then, when you see the benefits and results of your first steps, move onto the next steps in the next chapter. Move at your own pace and incorporate what is easy, striving for ‘green goals’ that are larger or more challenging or exciting. Without being overwhelmed, you can achieve a more natural, harmonious life in every aspect… and reap the rewards of better health, more calm, serenity and a more harmonious and lovely environment. That’s Pure Zing…and so are some of these recipes and tips!

Here are some wonderful recipes for Garden Care:

Natural & Non-toxic Pest Remover for Plants

2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1/8 teaspoon dishwashing detergent (natural/organic)
8 ounces warm tap water
Mix in a spray bottle and spray onto leaves to remove pests like mealy bugs and aphids

Homemade Flower Food

Place a copper penny or two into the water of a vase of flowers. The copper inhibits the growth of bacteria

Harmonious Tips for the Home

Tip: Yellow is a great color in an office, as it aids in both communication and concentration. Also a good choice for a child’s room, as it assists in mental development and growth.

Tip: Hairdryers emit electromagnetic fields (EMF’s) of up to seven hundred milligauss at a distance of six inches from your head. Try a safer blow dryer like one from Angelite that emits only two milligauss of EMF.

Tip: Exposure to 85 db of sound usually results in permanent hearing loss.
Electric shaver: 85 db
Chain saw: 100 db
Motorcycle: 100 db
Forest: 15-20 db
Farm: 30-35 db
Cities: 45-75 db

Tip:
Vacuum your mattress monthly to clean out dust mites and place pillows and mattress pads in the sun: direct sunlight kills dust mites.

Tip:
Only corn is doused with more pesticides than cotton grown in the United States. 1.25 pounds of pesticides, defoliants and other chemicals are used to grow the cotton in every set of queen size sheets, and up to one third goes into every t-shirt. The EPA lists seven of the most common pesticides used in cotton fields as ‘known human carcinogens’. (moral: buy organic cotton sheets)

These are just a few recipes and tips culled from hundreds in Harmonious Environment. This is a soothing, calming, informative, inspiring and much-needed book. Grand Prize Winner of the Writer’s Digest Magazine Self-Published Book Awards, Harmonious Environment competed against 2,404 other book entries in over nine categories.
